Positive takeaway from attempted NYC attack (bomb exploded, but only bomber was hurt): terrorism is rare. Only a few hold extremist beliefs. Of those, only some support violence. Of those, only some will try. Of those, some will fail. Still a serious threat. But don't exaggerate.
Yes, it is. (I study this for a living). Since 9/11, there have been 8 jihadist attacks in the US (including the one in NYC this year that you mentioned), killing 95. That's rare. To put it in perspective, there have been 406 mass shootings in the US just this year, killing 586.
