Church and state dude. The government has NO RIGHT to recognise any marriage traditional or same sex. Everyone gets civil unions what church they get married in is no ones business especially the government. What say you.

Churches and other religious institutions can marry or not marry whomever they please. But state-sanctioned marriage is well-established and not going anywhere. I see more value in dealing with that real-world situation than a highly unlikely hypothetical.
-
Everything starts some where. Either with intelligent conversation or violance. You make a point with the reality of the situation our only two opinions are 1 Except the current situation or 2 Change it. All things are hypothetical until some one is brave enough to take action.

-
Fair enough. In that case, I have no problem with civil marriage, and don't see eliminating it as one of those long-shots worth fighting for.
-
Agreed. Im trying to argue for whats fair for everyone to produce a amicable solution however because of my own spiritual beliefs I personally agree with the current law even though it is clearly a violation of the constitution.

So, I don’t disagree with your conclusion, but your structure here is flawed. You could just as easily insert ‘interspecies’ instead of interracial, and you’d get different answers.
-
Of course you'd get different answers. One is comparing two human adults to two human adults. The other isn't.

"Change the question from X to Y. If the answer to question Y is A, then the answer to question X is A." Stupid (and from a college prof too).
-
More like "x" to "X". More similarities than differences.
-
Ah, the magic powers of capitalization. No, sorry, it's still a pseudosyllogism, embarrassing for a college prof (this would be true even if it is true that there are more similarities than differences, or rather, the similarities rather than the differences are decisive).
-
FWIW, I think there are much better arguments for SSM that don't depend on the claim that it's simply like IR or that sex is like race (but the point of the analogy is to end all argument, not make one, as the people who deploy it know full well).

Of course it's discriminatory—the question is, is there any reasonable basis to the discrimination (is "race" just like "sex" just like "number" just like "age" etc.?).
