Falling for flattery is a big part of the problem. Chinese companies that partner with American companies have invested billions of dollars into the American economy under every president since Nixon opened up China. That's not irrelevant, but it's not much either.

It's a sign of how far we've fallen that anyone thinks sales for American companies is what passes for presidential duties these days. It's not that it's a bad thing. Just that it's so much less than international trade agreements.

No, just that it's worse Past presidents negotiated extensive trade deals with Asian countries that benefited the US economically and especially geopolitically. Trump switched strategies, aiming for new bilateral deals, but (so far) failed to get any. Not sure why you excuse that

I hold every president to an incredibly high standard, which also means critiquing them in real time. If Trump secures the bilateral agreements he says he's pursuing and the result is good for the US, your patience will be justified. But so far, it hasn't worked out.

I don't know Nick, they really rolled out the red carpet and said nice things to him. That's like basically as good as a trade deal, right?
-
Sure. Six of one, half trillion of the other.

that an a neutered State Dept with many unfilled ambassador positions.
-
Definitely. I couldn't fit it all in one tweet, but that's a big reason why countries doubt his ability to follow through.

I worry he has done some irreversible damage to our ability to engage in diplomacy. No country will be able to trust Americas word past the length of that presidents term in office if there is not some level of consistency in the office and keeping the word of past deals by POTUS
-
I'm not giving up my faith in America's ability to make long-term adjustments. But this one's going to take some time.
-
certainly too early to abandon all hope. Just crazy when you think that there may be a foreign agent in the highest office in America! If Mueller is able to find a solid link to collusion, it would be an unprecedented mess and everything he has touched would need to be revisited!

He was totally sidelined. Our allies have moved on without us, securing bilateral, mutually agreeable trade packages. Loser Trump- feted with false flattery, nothing more-unless you throw in kissing Putin’s ass.

The issue in Asia is that Most countries over there see China as a Threat not as a partner. And when Trump goes in apology tour and bows down to China they can see who is boss. No need to talk to the fleas when the dog is around.

Time Americans ask themselves, who honestly wants to do a deal with a man like Trump, who us so obviously in the pocket of a ruthless mobster called Putin.
