With TPP, US was at the center of a 13-country pact excluding China. Now, 11 of them made a pact excluding US, and many are getting closer to China. Trump abandoned a great geopolitical move containing China's rise, and united other countries in an anti-US containment strategy.https://twitter.com/AP/status/929142126759350272 …

In January, I wrote that quitting the TPP ceded Asia-Pacific to China. And I'm not at all happy to see more evidence of that coming true. 2/xhttps://arcdigital.media/by-quitting-the-trans-pacific-partnership-trump-cedes-asia-pacific-to-china-f63514a783ac …

Did Trump really think he could screw over a bunch of countries, tossing aside 7 years of painstaking negotiations, and they'd come crawling back? They're countries, not contractors or business partners. You can't scare them with lawsuits, or trick them with bankruptcies. 3/x

Don’t think he’s screwing them over, just keeping “America First”. I’d bet TPP was bad for US Manufacturers, ppl Trump wants to help. Also, weren’t governments/countries liable to be sued by businesses via TPP?

I don't think he screwed them over for the purpose of screwing them over. But he still screwed them over. On balance, TPP was good for US manufacturers. There were, however, legitimate criticisms. But its geopolitical affects were much more significant than its economic effects.
