I have absolutely zero faith that the US will help the Kurds. I am happy on a moral level with the vote but fear it will kill many Kurds.

Depends. If the KRG takes the vote as advice about the direction they should go it won't lead to deaths. But if they declare independence...

Even if today's vote is only seen as a new direction that will still most likely lead to a crackdown on Kurds in Iraq and Turkey. Time bomb.
