It's not only a subpoena. There is independent statutory authority for the budget committees to obtain the tax returns of any person. It will be litigated, of course.

Thanks for the replies, both of you. Along with Trump and IRS, there's also the accounting firm that preps his returns, though I assume they'd claim privilege and it'd end up in court. If Dems take House, they might very well try, and all we can say is it'll be a fight.
