Many of Trump's foreign policy errors stem from the same place: An obsessive focus on Iran as a Nazi Germany or USSR-level threat -went all-in on MbS and KSA -remain confused on Syria -pushed Europe and China to cooperate against US +more Iran's an adversary. But not a peer rivalhttps://twitter.com/csdickey/status/1055516688559554560 …

Again, John Bolton didn't take this gig to sit and grimace uncomfortably during press conferences, or get his ass kicked outside the Oval by John Kelly. War with Iran is almost inevitable.

I wrote this in March, as Bolton and Pompeo replaced McMaster and Tillerson. I'm still quite concerned about it.https://arcdigital.media/donald-trump-is-going-to-bomb-iran-5f29632fb25d?source=friends_link&sk=f421e388b2951bb4d12c5eb6bebb2e2d …

As everyone should be. It's like too much of the Beltway is banking on their "Donald the dove" hot takes from 2015 and 2016 to see what's unfolding right under their noses.

"Many of Trump's foreign policy errors stem from the same place: An obsessive focus on Iran" . . . because Obama was involved with them. Fixed it for you . . .

That likely plays some role, especially for Trump himself. But some influential people in the administration have been obsessing about Iran since well before Obama became president, most notably National Security Advisor John Bolton.

certainly - but if Trump says NO - it dies. If he says yes, regardless of how insane or fake, it happens. And to think he views Iran as some historical allusion - is the most insane thing you've written in a while !!

From the neocon side, it's an Israel First obsession: the day the US invaded Iraq, Iran became the GREATEST EXISTENTIAL THREAT blah blah blah. But from #KremlinDon's kowtow pov, Iran's geopolitical power is a Russian obsession.
