The observations from some that MBS’s hold on power is shakier than it was before is interesting. Fellow political scientists, can anyone think of a case of a leader being deposed/pushed aside due to int’l pressure absent domestic protests or upheaval?
Can’t be common. The parameters cut out coups (that’s more than “pressure”) and anything with domestic public unrest too (cuts out Arab Spring). How about de Klerk? Depends on where you draw the line on domestic unrest.

the South Africa case is an interesting one. That may actually fit, and hadn’t crossed my mind. Thanks! Though I don’t know enough about the scale of domestic upheaval in the early 1990s.
