I think it's Kushner who he is preparing to defend - apparently he handed over the names of anti-Saudi dissidents to the Kingdom in exchange for a bail-out of his disastrous 666 5th Avenue screw-up.
-
-
-
The bailout loan for 666 Fifth came from Qataris, not Saudis. But yes, Kushner handed over US intel on various Saudis (not all dissidents), assisting the crown prince's "corruption" crackdown that wasn't primarily about corruption.
-
Point taken, but what then was the quid pro quo for 'naming names'. I can't believe he would do that out of love for the House of Saud.
-
Love? Probably not. Though it looks like Kushner was really taken with MBS on a personal level. I think the most likely explanation is Jared genuine thinks going all-in on Saudi Arabia (and Israel) vs. Iran was a good idea for American foreign policy in the Middle East.

It feels like quid pro quo look the other way on Kashoggi we get Erdogan to release the pastor. I know timing coincidences happen, and logically that's all it is.
-
In that scenario, what's Turkey getting? You listed two things Turkey's giving up. US got something. Saudis got something. What did Turkey get?
-
Yeah that's why my rational brain says its coincidence. The only thing I can think of is Erdogan getting weapons or a boatload of cash
-
I haven't seen any reports of either. Doesn't mean it's impossible, but I'd hold off on assuming that unless there's some evidence.
-
Right. Plus if Erdogan has cover it'll be easily seen in actions in the coming months. If nothing happens, my thought is obvious bullshit ha

But as Trump said he's not American and don't want to lose the Saudi weapon contract income.
-
That's a big clue where this is headed. It's also analytically flawed. Saudis aren't buying weapons as a favor.

# Two.

I'm leaning two too.

Strictly going by past experiences, of course.

Does he face any real consequence in siding with the Saudis? He only cares about his base and I don't see how the Trump voter cares about this. GOP pols won't leave him as long as he has the base. Global condemnation doesn't matter to him. What price can he pay?
-
Trump personally? Probably not (at least in the short term). And there'd be a personal cost for him, as Saudi money flowing to his businesses could dry up. But for America, the Middle East, journalism, truth, basic morality? Real consequences.

Obviously we need a 1 week FBI investigation directed from the White House to determine whether the Saudis are guilty of Kashoggi's murder.

Putin.. Kavanaugh. “Where the evidence?” It’s the Lance Armstrong Standard: “extraordinary accusations require extraordinary proof”. No proof =no crime

What's the difference between Iranian acts of repression and Saudi Arabian acts of repression I am really curious how the US parses this out?

Trump and Saudi Arabia. Maybe the Saudis have something on him just like Putin may.
