There are two Kavanaugh nominations. Within America’s two big information universes, two unshakable narratives have taken hold. No matter how it turns out, these contradictory narratives will persist, doing lasting damage to the country. (THREAD)

Yes. But should we try to reconcile these bubbles? Is there lasting damage being done, or is this just a symptom of damage already done and festering for ages? /1
-
From my blue bubble perspective, a lot of the red bubble will always believe Franken or Clinton accusations and wouldn’t believe live Access Hollywood footage. How do you heal that? /2
-
Dumping Kavanaugh will treat the symptom, not the disease. You are correct that the country eventually needs to heal. But it is getting harder and harder to see that path. /3
-
Again, from my blue bubble, I would say it is impossible when roughly a third of the country ignores the nature of reality and another third is disengaged. /4
-
The damage being done here goes far beyond nominating Kavanaugh. It will take far more than a new nominee to stop the damage. /5
-
Probably not your intention, but threads that appeal to healing the blue/red rift appear to ask the only side willing to compromise to take 100% of the compromises. You can’t end a serial killing spree by asking the non-killer population to just calm down about the murdering. /6

I don’t know where the country goes from here. But it is not going to be easy. And that is what we are seeing playing out with Kavanaugh. /7

I don't have a good answer for you. I wish I did--it's a concerning long-term problem.
