I did not see the second half of your tweet, and came barging in here ready to yell loudly about the 4th Amendment. I don't know what to do now.

I’ll take that as a compliment. And I’ll compliment your thoughtful hesitation as well. Seems like a simple thing, but so many on this website don’t bother.

I always thought it was some middle ground. Nominees deserve a chance to show why the should be on the bench, a presidents choice should of course be given deference but it’s still a Supreme Court seat and the person should be without black marks.
-
I agree that presidents should be given deference. When I say alternative options, I mean other potential nominees who share the president's judicial philosophy.
-
2/2 I dislike almost every ruling or Roberts, but at the end of the day, reading his Slips show carefully placed rulings, grounded in settled law.
-
Frankly, I don’t think judges should be political picks at all - elected or politically appointed. Sort out an independent commission of professional peers as per various other countries and get on with it.
-
Ohh, good thought! I thought you were gonna go withthey “they should be elected” which is even worse, cause they rule based on being re elected. But yeah! A group of professionals who know law, evaluating them! Love it

Applying criminal court standard here is a dodge. Even civil courts have different evidence rules and standards of judgment (probability.) This is neither, it’s a job interview. For a lifetime job on the gee dee Supreme Court.

Right. A seat on the Supreme Court should not be an entitlement.

This process is a JOB INTERVIEW! He failed. Would you hire this person for a job with the limited information that has been released and then this accusation. No if you were a Fortune 500 company, the rejection letter would be in the email.

This is not a criminal trial requiring proof beyond a reasonable doubt. This is a matter of voting. If Dr. Ford is credible and Kavanaugh is not, that is enough to vote against confirming him for the Supreme Court.

I also love "We shouldn't presume he is guilty"....while they presume she is guilty of lying.

This is not a legal case. It’s a job interview. Beyond reasonable doubt is not the standard here nor is preponderance of evidence.

There are no good alternatives when Republicans and Democrats are picking the judges, especially Kavanaugh. I'd rather see a purge.

The second part of your tweet is perhaps the dumbest thing I’ve read this week. SHE needs to prove that she isn’t smearing an innocent man. Place? No idea. Date? Dunno. Corroborating evidence? Nope. So anyone can railroad a nominee with an unsubstantiated allegation??? Good God!

Law mandates Senate advice/consent on Pres. nominees. Pretty sure BofP is a standard reserved for the trial court system. Judge Kavanaugh isn’t being tried, he’s being nominated. Ironically, if the FBI reopened its failed background check the standard might actually apply!
