We'll never truly get a simplified code at least not within our lifetime... The GOP and the Dems will just shift the code around.

Sure seems that way. I had hopes for unified Republican control, considering how much they used to talk about it, revere Reagan, etc. Guess I shouldn’t have.

My thoughts exactly. Fundamental tax reform is politically hard. Passing out checks...easy.
-
Yup. But still. With unified control of government, could’ve made it happen. Probably could’ve gotten some Democratic votes too (and if not, gotten a political advantage). The tax bill significantly contributed to my disillusion re: today’s GOP.

I feel you brother. Still remember all the work we put into the President’s commission on tax reform back in the mid-2000s. We had the plan, just not the votes. Fast-forward and they had they had the plan AND the votes - and did Publishers Clearinghouse Sweeps instead.

Road not traveled-45 could have had a 50% approval rating by doing the following things: 1)Signed TTP explaining how great it was claiming it was his,(see T
),
2)Signed real infrastructure bill telling wall lie w/it
3)Nominated Gorsuch then Garland
Happy midterms-alas no-too

Basically try to be president of all Americans instead of an angry subset? Probably would’ve worked. Unfortunately was never in the cards.
-
...because Trump is basically crazy. When you look at the list of what he did it makes no political, business or common sense. He could have grifter off the infrastructure bill and no one would have cared, could have done 0, taken cred for 44’s econ&would have been accepted.
