Whether or not the allegations against him are true (and I firmly believe they are), Brett Kavanaugh seeks elevation to one of the leadership positions of the most powerful judicial body in the most powerful nation on earth. Scrutiny of this kind is what he signed up for.

Right. Imagine taking a "beyond reasonable doubt" approach to his intelligence, probity, legal knowledge, etc.
-
Maybe I’m being silly & too hyper-political, but this & Trump’s election after Access Hollywood tape feel more devastating than my experiences of rape. Then, I experienced bad events by bad people in an otherwise safe(ish) world. Now our govt doesn’t even pretend to care about us
-
I pretty much think the psychological consequences of being raped (and I am so profoundly sorry that happened to you) categorically exclude the possibility of being silly.
-
Thanks. I mean, I’m not looking for pity, but it feels fundamentally more egregious knowing that not only is the president a sexual predator (and voters fine with sexual assault), but the Senate is so far fine with 1/3 of the men on the Supreme Court committing sexual misconduct.
-
I don't see you looking for pity, and I'd describe what I feel about it as sympathy rather than pity. That a single person voted for Trump after the Access Hollywood tape leaked (as with many, many other disqualifying events) is a national stain.
-
Yes. It feels like a national rebuke.
-
As we have discussed a million times, I will never ever be able to think about the country the same way again as I did before he was elected.
-
Same here. Same, I'm sure, for much of the country (and the world) as well.

Yeah, the notion that this is an “innocent until proven guilty” standard is bullshit. We are filling a key vacancy on our highest court, and people’s nominations have been withdrawn for something as trivial as smoking weed. We’re not asking much by calling for investigation.

There are also the issues with
#Kavanaugh debt, and his willingness to allow 45 to run amok. These concerns should also disqualify him. He might be an ok guy to other guys who think his behavior is ok, but the SCOTUS judges should have impeccable reputations.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I’m not sure about how low the standard should be.

A Supreme Court Jersey slice should be transparent and beyond reproach/-not a lying, perjuring scumbag like Kavanaugh

Wait. The reasonable doubt standard is a good measure if an event likely took place or not. You're saying we should exclude people for merely being accused? The other party seems more honest?

You are correct that this is not a criminal trial. You are not correct in the suggestion that "We" are the deciders. The voting public, at large, is not. The Senate is, through its advice and consent powers. As a result, the proper standard is unique to that Senator

Okay. What is your bar for Kavanaugh to establish his
#SCOTUS fitness when faced with an accuser who is either unwilling or unable to supply a date, place or corroborating evidence (including any record that she mentioned Kavanaugh by name) for the alleged incident? Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
