Kavanaugh wasn't accused of Sexual Assault prior to this. His next choice won't be accused of Sexual Assault until after they are nominated, either.https://twitter.com/NGrossman81/status/1041485241616097280 …

Why not withdraw Kavanaugh and nominate someone who isn’t accused of sexual assault? It’s such an obvious move. Only answers I can think of: -No others will put POTUS above the law. -Upsetting liberals as much as possible is an end in itself. Neither reflects well on Republicans.

I don’t know if they knew about the possibility of a sexual assault allegation when vetting him (neither answer reflects well on the vetters). But they knew he had a lot of docs from his time in the exec branch, and McConnell warned he’d be the hardest to confirm.

For the Record, I wanted Amy Barrett. Kavanaugh has never struck me as especially Conservative.https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/sep/5/kavanaugh-garland-voted-together-93-pct-time/ …

Barrett was the politically smart pick. I thought that was clear at the time. But she didn’t write that the president should never be indicted.

This attack would only have intensified. "Barrett has little actual legal experience that would qualify her to be a judge for this role."https://www.plannedparenthoodaction.org/pressroom/planned-parenthood-condemns-amy-coney-barrett-nomination-to-the-u-s-court-of-appeals-for-the-seventh-circuit …

Sure. Opponents will attack any nominee. The difference is attacks on judicial record are normal, and typically reflect partisan preferences (eg. position on abortion). That’s not what’s going on with Kavanaugh. Or, rather, it’s not the only thing going on.

Before 1987, nothing like this would have happened. It doesn't really surprise me now.
