How many of the people weighing in passionately about the Serena Williams situation have actually watched enough tennis to have a good intuition for what's normal?

Maybe 4%? I watch tennis and have for a while. I remember Connors and McEnroe. Most commenting have no idea what they’re talking about.

It's also argue that norms from 30 years ago aren't a good basis for comparison. When people go to those two as examples it usually means that they don't follow enough to have recent basis for comparison. It's like having Mike Tyson as your only point of reference for boxing.

That's more what I'd expect from a fan. But seriously, Serena has blow ups on courts with computer review, which eliminates the major reason for this stuff. Basically all that's left is code of conduct. McEnroe had a lot more chances for feuds with officials over line calls.

That’s true. In-or-out was the biggest catalyst of player-chair yelling.
