Stop 25th Amendment talk. It's for incapacitation (stroke, got shot). For abuse of power, obstruction of justice, bribery, etc there's impeachment. Needs 1/2 House + 2/3 Senate. 25th needs that + VP + cabinet majority + 2/3 House. Why go for option that's harder and a worse fit?

What about mid-stage Alzheimer's or a mental illness profound enough to affect judgment? Isn't that "incapacity?" And while we in the public can't make those diagnoses, they are very much non-risible explanations for the man's erratic behavior.

My issue is the practical side, as opposed to what the 25th is designed for. I can't imagine a situation in which the 25th could actually be invoked but impeachment couldn't.

I'm bothered by the norm violation. But even if one isn't, your second point is important. Both the 25th (without actual incapacitation) and impeachment would be political, and there's no way to get enough votes for removal via 25th without enough for removal via impeachment.
