What I find disquieting about Sessions recusing himself is that he ducked and covered on that one single point of law. On every other point of law, from Roe, to civil rights, to racial equality, to religious freedom, Jeff Sessions is Lord Voldemort personified.

I think those are categorically different. One can disagree over Supreme Court cases, how Constitutional principles apply to various issues, the current relevance of old law, etc. No remotely honest person thinks law enforcement officials can impartially investigate themselves.
-
I think it's the "remotely honest" part that puzzles me....because, at no point in his career, has Sessions ever led me to believe he is even remotely honest. Points of law aside, he just doesn't seem to care about anything that stands in the way of his vision.

So why would he care about this one particular thing?

Apparently the reality that evangelical churches are basically organized crime syndicates is, thus far, too much for people to digest. I But I remember in 2016 when russian installation of the POTUS was too much and that seems to have changed, so there is, perhaps, hope.

Even the Red Tsunami would be an anti-Sessions vote, demanding his removal? I’m not getting this whirlwind thing.
