The justifications are wildly all over the map. Is it that it would have been a crime if damaging info had been revealed at Trump Tower? Or is it that there is no difference between hiring Fusion GPS and open dealing with Russia?

It seems the connections between Trump campaign and Wikileaks (hello Roger Stone), taken in conjunction with the the Trump Tower meeting (whether or not they got the “dirt” then and there), linked to the timing of the leaks - it all seems pretty damning.
-
Repeatedly changing justifications sure doesn't make any of them seem convincing.
-
I’m trying to figure out some strategy behind it. Maybe just put out contradictory explanations that will appeal to different parts of their base, and let the avoidance of cognitive dissonance do the rest?
-
Those who believe there is no difference between law firm hiring Fusion vs. campaign dealing with Russian govt directly will often refuse to consider any evidence suggesting campaign welcomed hacking, thereby avoiding any uncomfortable dissonance. All compartmentalized.
-
It's weird that constantly changing your story is an effective media strategy. People inclined to believe you find a version they like. Enemies have to spend energy in each story. Unengaged people just assume the answer is unknowable. Probably not a good legal strategy, though.

Cut to Homer Simpson, “For the last time, I thought the cop was a prostitute!”

And this is only if we believe the people who have lied about literally everything concerning this meeting that future cocaine deliveries weren't discussed/arranged.

Funny you use this analogy, I was busted for coke when I was 18... it was baking soda. True story.

I know I will get a lot of flack about this but I think they did get something about Hillary (her emails?), but it wasn't anything they could use against her so they were disappointed.

The meeting was about how much the cocaine would cost. A businesslike cost/benefit negotiating session. Nothing extraordinary for people involved in high-level tradficking
