I don't disagree, but in this case it was specifically because she said no republican wants to debate her. He just called her bluff. My take is it was mostly him just being mischievous, but he would have jumped at the opportunity if she agreed.

That sure sounds like two people interested in performance not dialogue.

My take is for Ben it was both. I think he genuinely looks for any opportunity to discuss ideas with someone, which he sees as a chance to advance conservative philosophy. Of course I don't know the man, but that seems a real part, though not all, of the reason for the offer.

I’d propose the following instead of debate: Get two people from opposite ends of the political spectrum together on stage. Offer a relevant, timely policy issue. Give them two hours to come up with a solution they can both live with. If they do it, donate $$ to charity.
