I'd say Paul Ryan should immediately remove Devin Nunes as chair of the House intel committee and replace him with someone who has integrity. But we all know he won't. Ryan has full access to the FISA application. He knew the Nunes memo was full of lies. He backed Nunes anyway.

This presents a clear litmus test for who is an honest conservative and who is just a Republican tribalist. For example,
@DavidAFrench wrote a great article at the time reserving judgment and arguing that the public should see the evidence. Well, here it is. It shows Nunes lied.Show this thread -
Remember, the FISA court wasn't convicting him of a crime. Just judging that the FBI's suspicion was reasonable enough to grant a warrant for surveillance. If you know anything about Carter Page, you know it was reasonable to suspect he might be working with Russian intelligence.

But even if it was reasonable to suspect Page, if the FBI lied on the FISA application it'd be a serious problem. Nunes claimed FBI hid that Steele dossier was a source and hid that some evidence came from political oppo. We can now all see that it didn't.https://twitter.com/pwnallthethings/status/1020846153343078400 …

As
@tgriffinnc points out, here's the best possible Nunes defense: He didn't deliberately lie about what's in the FISA app. Just lied that he read it. But lobbed accusations and tried to undermine the investigation anyway. That's the defense.https://twitter.com/tgriffinnc/status/1020882729536315392 …Show this thread -
First it was FBI violated procedure by hiding that some info came from political oppo. Now, with that disproven, it's the FBI followed procedure and didn't ID by name? Really? Unmasking was something you were pretending to be upset about just last year. https://twitter.com/seanmdav/status/1020891960196968448 …

It’s solid. I RTed.

I've already read tweets supporting his position in the face of the released document. It's mind-boggling.

Same. I am not capable of enough cynicism for 2018. Can't shake my belief that, confronted with incontrovertible evidence of lies, people will acknowledge facts. At least about something narrow. Maybe some do. But many don't. It keeps happening, but I'm still amazed.

Motivated reasoning? That's the best academics can come up with.

Nunes’ only defense now is that he never actually read the FISA warrant because he was recused at the time due to an ethics investigation into that stunt he pulled with the unmasking thing.

MANY people will try. Many Trumpsters do not respond to facts or evidence.

No mention of a Campaign #2, just a general reference to oppo research. Nunes hit the nail on the head. This is much, much bigger than Watergate, and the apologists own it.
