I’ve never bought into the hard left’s idea that the whole concept was a farce. Still, I’ve noted many Native Americans’ issues with how they’ve been treated - like foreigners on their own soil.

America has often failed to live up to its ideals. It's gotten closer over time (with occasional backsliding), but definitely not there yet. Probably impossible to get there fully. But that doesn't negate the ideals themselves.

I agree. I do admit that this particularity has a corollary: American policy thus follows ideas (& the capital to be gained from them & their use) rather than any particular people, often to Americans' net detriment and America's net gain. Not a judgement, just an observation.
