Would that actually give Dems a majority? Doesn't control go to majority of members duly elected and sworn, not just of those present? It would create a 50-50 chamber. But then they could hammer out a power-sharing agreement, a la 2001, and achieve these same goals.

McCain absent, so 50-49 is a majority of those present. If necessary, add another GOP Senator. Murkowski? Corker? Collins? Whoever.

Confirm Kavanaugh? Why?
-
Otherwise, Flake definitely doesn’t do it. He’s both anti-Trump and a staunch conservative, and his behavior indicates he places greater priority on the latter. He’d never risk blocking a conservative Supreme Court nom.

Why should/would they confirm Kavanaugh?
-
No way Flake single-handedly blocks a SCOTUS Justice nom he supports. He has to get something out of this too, or it isn’t a bargain.
-
What kind of scumbags treat national security and American democracy itself as a bargaining chip — oh, right.

I say NO. After each of his impassioned speeches, he has continued to vote in lock-step with BLOTUS. He is, by no means, a Democrat.
-
Of course he’s not a Democrat. If he were, there wouldn’t be any need for a (fully hypothetical) deal like this.
-
To trust him would be the height of naivety. Check his voting record.

Seth, do you support confirming Kavanaugh as a bargaining chip??
-
The good judge already lied to the American public in his first appearance. "No search for a judge has ever been more exhaustive..." He gas-lit us with words Trump gave him. In fact, he was on a short list given to *45; there was no search at all.

Advice against it. Flake is spineless & out of contact with America.
-
Heh, well he is a Washington Republican.

All the Democrats need to do is publicly pledge that any sitting Republican Senator or Representative who votes successfully to impeach and remove from office will run
