There's public evidence of Russian information operations aimed at the 2016 election. But on the DNC hack specifically, public knowledge is based on reports that come down to "the US intelligence community assesses" or "the Department of Justice alleges." 6/

It’s normal for the government to base assessments on classified info, which the public won’t see for decades (if ever). Publicizing it would reveal sources and methods to adversaries. So you’re not going to see all the evidence. But you have to draw a conclusion anyway. 7/

Trump, Hannity, Greenwald, and the Russian gov say the DNC hack is made up. FBI, CIA, the rest of the US IC, Mueller and the Justice Dept, and multiple private cyber security firms with financial incentives to disagree all agree Russia did it. You choose who you believe. (END)

Trump can declassify anything at will and CLEARLY doesn't want the Russia hack to be true. So the idea that he knows it's not true and doesn't just expose the truth is not believable.

The idea that it was made up to account for the loss doesn't hold water. Trumps public actions RE: Russia were raising eyebrows back in summer of '16. Hillary spoke about them during the debate, when everyone still thought she would win.
