If NATO countries are ripping off America by not spending enough on defense, does that mean the US will cut military spending as allies spend more? Europe spent more last year, but US increased anyway. Maybe this isn’t about money. Maybe it’s just an excuse to fight with allies.
I doubt it. NATO set the 2% of GDP spending threshold in 2014, and the agreement calls for all members to meet it by 2024. Since then, most have raised their defense spending (though most remain below 2%).
