Any national leader has a coalition. I’m referring to the international level—i.e. support for supranational institutions, alliances, trade agreements, etc. But your point about “strongman solidarity” is good. The Apartists are in a sense together in their preference for Apart.

There’s a risk of that. But German reports suggest Seehofer’s resigning because he lacks the support within his party to take on Merkel, so the result could be replacing him with someone who supports her more. Lot left to come. Either way, still an Apartist resigning.
