If Harry Reid does something you think is bad, you have to do something worse. No way around it. You have no choice. Your decision’s not your responsibility. It’s his.https://twitter.com/asymmetricinfo/status/1012040040111845376 …

Here's the reality: As partisanship increased, both parties increasingly obstructed nominations. The judicial filibuster was a dead letter. As soon as the minority used it to block a Supreme Court nom and refused to deal, the majority would eliminate it. "In sorrow," of course.

But even if you think Harry Reid indefensibly nuked the filibuster, that doesn't require escalation. Upon winning the Senate, GOP had many options. Reverse Reid's action, follow it directly, work to restore compromise on judicial noms, etc. They're responsible for their choice.

I kinda wish Dems refused compromise under Bush, so GOP would've nuked first. I wouldn't have liked that, then or now. But at least we wouldn't have to hear otherwise intelligent people make such weak, responsibility-shirking arguments about Reid and the filibuster today. (END)
