Historically, "rising above" has tended to get ignored. Mass action has gotten things done.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. There's a sort of survivor bias, a selection effect where successful mass actions get remembered by history, while the many failures don't.

True, but what's an example of a movement succeeding that retained civility completely and did not have mass action?

I don't think any movement has retained civility completely, especially not any successful one. The question is always how far is too far?

I'm troubled the call to non-violently but firmly confront those collaborating with a president that clearly doesn't believe in a free press or due process is somehow impolite, or, to use Schumer's term,"unAmerican". Those threatening democracy aren't entitled to a peaceful meal.

No white supremacists in public. No fascists in public. No autocrats in public. No kleptocrats in public. Feels simple to me, but then, I AM pretty angry.
