that's a good narrative, and certainly works in the US, but isn't at all what just happened in Italy, where the (mostly but not entirely ceremonial) President didn't allow the new premier to designate his cabinet secretaries because they were distasteful to him

That’s a fair criticism—others can block, which doesn’t necessarily reflect poorly on the blocked. But it’s not an exact analogy. 5-Star and the League could’ve played this differently, while Republicans wouldn’t even consider anyone. We’ll see where things go next.
