No dropkicks in AFL for decades.

Why don’t kickers use this for their onside kick attempt? You see it all the time in rugby, just sky a kick that travels 10 and get your tallest/best jumper underneath it

Great kick, but don’t understand why Carrol would do that when you can tee it up? Less chance of missing it. Don’t get it.
-
I assume it allows for greater hang time to distance than a normal teed kick would, allowed the coverage to be down field ready by the time the returner caught the ball it seemed.
-
It doesn’t, in fact it’s the opposite. I kicked off in college.
-
Fair enough!
-
You had a great answer, just in my experience it’s easier to make that kick with a tee and a three step kick under the ball.
-
Yeah you can get under the ball a lot easier than with a tee. And considering it was from the 50 he didn’t need to give it too much power so a drop kick is a good option.
-
Ausssies and NZer's start learning to drop kick from the time they walk and the pro rugby players can do virtually do anything with it - distance and or height. Great disruptive option in NFL.
-
I understand that, but what exactly is disruptive about drop kicking the same ball I can kick off a tee? It didn’t seem to bother the returner on that play so don’t know what advantage you get from drop kicking it?
