Be careful with females. There is the evidence fasting doesn't work in females the way it does in males.

Science has fallen into this issue many times. This should continue to be looked at across genders and varying ethnographic backgrounds. Many cultures incorporate fasting over thousands of years. Understanding physiological impact is overdue.

If you read the whole article, instead of the headlines, you learn that there is little evidence for any long term benefits of intermittent fasting (IF) in humans, and even less in older humans. And, a RCT of IF versus a control diet, showed no benefit at 12 mo.

Im on keto diet since 2 years, doc. And every now and then I follow a moderate carb approach + intermittent fasting, and that's totally right, even if I consume a larger amount of carbs on a day, metabolic switch to keto again occurs after about 12 h of unintentional fasting!

Fasting isn’t part of mainstream medicine because nobody would make any money out of it.
