Love this! We don’t have to have a PHD to be an advocate, we don’t have to be a billionaire to be a philanthropist. The power is already ours!!!! We are the change makers!

A6: NEDA believes advocacy and awareness go hand-in-hand. Anytime a person speaks about issues of importance to them, they’re an advocate. Their advocacy can then expand into influencing policy, educating about eating disorders, and mentoring others.

"I'm embarrassed to admit I have an eating disorder." It's nothing to be ashamed of; eating disorders are complex illnesses that arise from a combination of biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors -- not choices.

A3: There are so many possible answers to this, but here’s one: recovery is possible, but it might not always be linear. Reach out for help, and you might have to be persistent when doing so.

All of this for sure! Folks living with ED might already be experiencing shame, guilt, and other hard emotions. It's important to find healthy ways of expressing emotion, for caregivers and loved ones as well as the person living with ED.

The idea of who "looks" sick is so problematic, and even providers can sometimes use these awful stereotypes. I'm so sorry this was your experience. At 10 (and always), you should have been believed and validated.

A2: We’re seeing some common themes, and a lot of interesting ideas. It's so important to be gentle with yourself. Recovery might not be linear, and it might not always feel good. It's okay to hold space for those complex feelings.

A1: One huge barrier is access to early care and the way insurance covers (or doesn't cover) treatment. People who aren't "sick enough" won't get coverage until they get worse, and people who start to recover are pushed out of treatment too soon.

A2: & are essential for ! Slips, backslides, & relapse are common in the recovery process. In addition to re-learning "normal" eating habits and coping skills, seek out support from professionals, friends, and family.
