this film ; Priest (2011) is not ground breaking, but it is thoroughly entertaining. It borrows heavily from different source material, the high aesthetic and universe from a korean comic and the plot from a old western: The Searchers (1950s) john wayne flickpic.twitter.com/fs8e58xbXa

the universe that was built, the exposition in the first few scenes was well done they opened on a high octane introduction scene, consider it an abstract of what was to come as they do in a james bond film adrenaline, then the animated exposition of building the universe

again the film did not intend i believe to be original as they borrowed both concepts and plots from elsewhere and mashed them up in a new way, which has done before the exposition was animated which reminded me of the similar technique done by tarintino. worked well

character development was low, the heros arch did not show much change the acting at times was stale, however the PTSD aspect which the director said he used the vietnam vets as inspiration, down side, he focused too much on this the highs and lows, audience feels indifferent

it was a good film, like how micheal bay makes good movies. you watch it as you dont want to think too much and want to be willingly distracted. good style and good effects, poor dialogue and acting was lack luster as was the last 20 minutes. i watched it on netflix

post script. one of the most appealing things i had found was the contradiction in the aesthetic, although this comment is less about the film and more about the source material of the comic, the merging of old and new, similar aesthetic as vampire hunter D neo-cybergothic
