Lying on an identification document is perjury. You should look it up.
-
How does that work with this “self identify” thing? You’re saying they are all committing perjury?
-
He said he doesn't identity as female. He did it for the discount. That is perjury.
-
Ok but if someone said they self identify as a woman got their ID changed then it would all be a-ok? Good to know… the possibilities are endless.

If they identify as a woman then she is being honest and not perjuring themselves. This man lied on the form so he could reduce his insurance costs. That is perjury. See the difference?
-
Sure but he just missed one step. Surely other people will be able to do that. Maybe there are even cheaper categories that you could self identify as to get even lower rates..
-
The "step" he "missed" is being honest on the form. He doesn't identify as woman. That means he perjured himself, the form is filed with the court. Lying on such a form is perjury. That's what we call it when you lie to a court. There are serious consequences for that.

Maybe Alberta should follow the EU and ban insurance companies from using gender as factor for rates? Surprised that’s still allowed here.
-
All that would do is raise women's rates to where men's are
-
That's exactly how insurance works - all our individual risk profiles are pooled and averaged out. What other differences should be made? Different races pay different rates too?
-
Good point. Your driving history should affect your rate. What you were born should not.
-
While you're bloviating about gender pay gap lie, an artificial construct, based on grotesque oversimplification, of little value to real policymaking, perhaps you can ponder 2 of last actual vestiges of legal gender bias, car & life insurance which discriminate against males.

Look at the can of worms the
@albertaNDP opened up when you allowed this#mentalillness as part of gender. There are only 2 genders.#ableg#abpoli#truth#factpic.twitter.com/dv8vN4cSol - End of conversation

Perhaps he feels he was born in the wrong body! Perhaps he feels he should’ve been born in a body that gets cheaper car insurance! She, excuse me.
-
When he drives he identifies as a woman making him a safer driver.

per·ju·ry ˈpərj(ə)rē/Submit nounLAW the offense of willfully telling an untruth in a court after having taken an oath or affirmation.
-
When changing your gender marker, taking an oath in front of a commissioner of oaths (usually the registrar agent) is part of the process. So it's absolutely perjury.
-
Only perjury if he took an oath to be male first, which he did not.
