It’s a shame to see field biology and natural history decline in prominence at universities. I don’t have much profound to say about this trend other than that we know very little about the world around us, we are in the midst of a biodiversity crisis, and this isn’t helping.

I’ve been just entering obs with pland=0 for all the classes manually. Probably a way to check if they were generated with R and if not, insert them but I’m not proficient enough to figure that out 😂

I’m a fan of the ‘landscapemetrics’ package so far but I am frustrated that it won’t return an observation for a particular class when it is 0% of the landscape. I don’t know if fragstats does this either but it makes the calculations I’m doing very difficult to set up...

Late Oct 2019. A group of cross Fremont Lake on a 150-mile migration to their winter range in the Red Desert. These herds must be able to move across Wyoming's big landscapes. Footage by undergrad and WyoScholar Tanner Warder.

Yesterday, I was in the right place at the right time. This Mink came bounding toward me, and when it spotted me it came to a halt. I was able to get a few quick images before it took off.
