The North Charleston Police Department sadly announces the passing of retired K-9 Chopper. Chopper proudly served the City of North Charleston for 10 years. After retirement in 2018 he lived out his life with former NCPD K-9 handler Kathy Kirkland. Chopper, you will be missed!

NCPD is celebrating Black History Month, honoring Chief Reggie Burgess, the first African American police chief in our agency’s history. Chief Burgess grew up in the city. Burgess said, “Becoming the first African American police chief in North Charleston is truly a blessing.”

During a recent call, NCPD officers were notified from a family member that their mother has been taking new medications and was acting confused. She was frustrated and didn't want to return home. Patrolman Lyle Key walked her around the neighborhood and all was well. Great work!

Due to the icy road conditions, a portion of Ashley Phosphate Rd between Patriot Blvd and Windsor Hill Rd has been closed to traffic. Ashley Phosphate Rd is impassable between these locations. Bexely St between O’Hear Ave and Dodge is shut down due to a water main break.

We participated in week two of Good Night Lights at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital. We received great news. A child that has been waiting for a heart will be getting one within a week. It doesn't get better than receiving the gift of life for the holidays.

Please join us in congratulating NCPD M.P.O. Wallace and Ptl. Cain from our Harbor Patrol Unit for rescuing two people in a kayak who lost their way yesterday. The officers were alerted by a chopper that spotted the kayak. The rescue was a joint effort. Great teamwork all!
