Broadcasting has been my childhood dream. I've gotten to fulfill part of that dream by launching 1A. Words can't express how much this venture has changed my life, in ways I never could've predicted. Television was also part of the dream, and now I get the chance to do it.
1A is not "my show". I'm just a steward of it: the show belongs to you, as a kind of public trust. And this show is not about a person - it's about a principle. Free speech. Active listening. Curiosity. Engagement. Debate. It's about the First Amendment. And it's alive and well.
I look forward to seeing this program thrive far into the future. It's in good hands. @ToddZwillich will host in the New Year while WAMU chooses my successor. But you're not rid of me yet! We've got another month to hang out before I sign off.
Thanks for making this such a life-changing ride. 2020 is going to be a big year, in many ways. Let's make the most of it, pour our hearts into it and, yes, even ENJOY IT, wherever we are.
