      Q1: How long have you been in elections/your role? A1: I began working in elections in 2006 in a field support position for the state. In 2011, I became a county elections director. From 2015-2019, I worked with elections software & as a national consultant about voting methods.

      A1 Continued: I was appointed Executive Director and North Carolina’s Chief Elections Officer in May 2019 and assumed the role on June 1, 2019.

          Q2: What got you interested in elections? A2: The importance and responsibility of public service has been instilled in me from the time I was born since my father was mayor of my hometown at that time. The importance of voting was also emphasized in my family.

          Q3: What’s the best part of your job? A3: The most memorable & inspiring moments of my work have been when I’ve been able to directly interact with voters. In my 1st year working in elections, I met a man who was wheelchair bound & had never been able to vote independently....

          A3 Continued: ...I saw him have tears in his eyes the first time he rolled up to the voting machine and made his selections by himself. Moments like that are the best part of the job and motivate me each day to improve our voting process.
