As
@NASCARatCOTA is the first road course of the year, we are likely to see plenty of adjustments as cars hit the track for the first time and teams get acclimated with both the new car and the new surface changes.pic.twitter.com/UgvW5apU4Q

The weight jacker works by adding or removing tension from one corner of a car in order to change the balance and how tight or loose the car is. The best way to think of it is that it is similar to inserting a wedge under one leg of a table and changing which way it rocks.pic.twitter.com/GjUQYv9TVN

Along with tire pressures, teams can also adjust the balance of the car in the race by changing crossweight or wedge with a weight jacker that can be installed on the rear dampers. The car can be adjusted by a crewmember with a wrench through the window during a pit stop.pic.twitter.com/d2MhhnYcvm

Camber and toe changes can only feasibly be accomplished prior to the start of the race, so teams will use tire pressures as a tool to adjust the handling of the car while they are in the race.pic.twitter.com/v9PZNqmOYJ

All of these measurements have limits set out in the rule book, so teams will try to find the best balance possible for the car while staying within the bounds of the tolerances for camber and toe.pic.twitter.com/4MwxtO1BHl

As the Next Gen car now offers independent suspension in the rear, changes are made in a similar manner in the rear of the car as well. Shims are also used to adjust other setup measurements such as toe, which is the angle of the tire relative to the centerline of the car.pic.twitter.com/SJEnzFvgo0

Smaller swings in camber are used as a tuning tool in order to make setup changes to the car in order to optimize performance, and on the Next Gen car those are accomplished by adding or removing shims from the suspension uprights. This is how those pieces look at the front:pic.twitter.com/uSGhFbVPsu

A wheel pointing toward the car is known as negative camber while a wheel pointing away from the car is known as positive camber. Large swings in camber from positive to negative are done with adapters, as noted above.pic.twitter.com/wUyNRuOTYu

The biggest difference between an oval suspension configuration and a road-course suspension configuration is how the wheels are cambered. On an oval both wheels point toward the left side of the car, but on a road course they both point toward the middle of the car.pic.twitter.com/KnwtjuxCk5
