This isn't even Webb's final form 😤 The Webb telescope is so large that it must fold up inside its @Ariane5 rocket for launch on Dec. 22. In space, Webb will slowly unfold to transform into its final configuration — 3 stories tall and as broad as a tennis court. Watch below 👇pic.twitter.com/tfVWpzqojs

      29 Days on the Edge
In the 29 days following the Webb telescope's liftoff, thousands of parts must work correctly, in sequence, to unfold Webb and put it in its final configuration.

When does it actually begin unfolding? Once it reaches its final destination or enroute to that final spot? Can't wait. Ten sleeps😁😀

Webb unfolds as it travels to its final destination. The unfolding sequence starts just after launch and lasts about 2 weeks, so Webb will be fully unfolded before it reaches its orbital point.

Why not unfold in earth orbit so a mission could be send if any issues? And then send it to its destination?

With the giant bright reflective sun shield, has anyone calculated if the telescope will be visible from a dark sky? How bright / what magnitude it might be?

Almost definitely not by human eyes. We can see satelites in LEO but this guy is going to L2 lagrange point on the other side of the moon. It's the size of a tennis court but because it's so far away I don't think we can see it.
