The Webb telescope is so large that it must fold up inside its @Ariane5 rocket for launch on Dec. 22. In space, Webb will slowly unfold to transform into its final configuration — 3 stories tall and as broad as a tennis court. Watch below

In the 29 days following the Webb telescope's liftoff, thousands of parts must work correctly, in sequence, to unfold Webb and put it in its final configuration.

Webb unfolds as it travels to its final destination. The unfolding sequence starts just after launch and lasts about 2 weeks, so Webb will be fully unfolded before it reaches its orbital point.
