Get this: all the gold we’ve found on Earth can fit in just 3 Olympic-size pools. 🏊 The Webb telescope's gold-coated mirrors are dazzling, but why is gold so rare on Earth? Find out in our latest “Elements of Webb” episode ⬇️pic.twitter.com/b467VjlCDH

Elements of Webb: Gold Part 2, Ep 02

Isn't one reason for its rareness that it is so heavy that it sunk down to the Earth's core when the Earth was formed?

"Is it extraterrestrial" - "comes from dust which forms the earth". So we are extraterrestrial too by that standard.

Most gold that would have naturally formed on earth would have sunk into the core during formation, the gold we do have that is from asteroids raining on the earth for millions of years
