👋 Hey #NASAWebb super-fans! Our new Webb Blog is here to take you behind the scenes through Webb's launch and commissioning period. This week, hear from our senior project scientist, Nobel Laureate John Mather: https://go.nasa.gov/3E4jE5y pic.twitter.com/J1nAg7BpOc

The James Webb Space Telescope's gold-coated, hexagonal primary mirror is fully unfolded in the NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center cleanroom. Two technicians in white cleanroom suits look up towards the observatory's optics, with one of them pointing towards the mirror.

Do you have one good picture of what the whole thing looks like deployed? Not an artist's version but the real thing? Because we'll never see it once it's out there, right?

Unfortunately we don't - the mirror wings and sunshield were not deployed at the same time on the ground.

I was privileged to interview Dr. Mather years ago about JWST. I asked him what he thought would be the most amazing thing it will discover.....his answer was, "That which we do not know."pic.twitter.com/5DhxemxBxy
