Don't forget that it has to fit under the Ariane 5 fairing, which has a diameter of 5.4m (the internal available diameter is less)!

Why launch The James Webb Space Telescope in French Guiana? Given that any unnecessary movement poses some risk why not put a hole in the roof of the building where it was built and launch it there :) OK or someplace closer than French Guiana
