The barred spiral galaxy NGC 253, seen here in infrared light, was recently announced as one of #NASAWebb’s first targets. It’s home to “super star clusters," or groups of stars that are brighter and more massive than your run-of-the-mill cluster.

These 'Super Star Clusters' are relatively more luminous and contain more mass than other young star clusters & are thought to be precursors of Globular Star clusters.
#JWST is exclusively an Infrared observing platform & thus, analyzing how these SSCs form would be key. - Show replies
