#BlackHoleWeek may be wrapping up, but our love for black holes has no end in sight. Here’s a thread of some of our favorite supermassive black holes ⬇️pic.twitter.com/JFzQhZheFK

There’s no place like our home galaxy…or its supermassive black hole. Sagittarius A* is at the core of the Milky Way (shown in X-ray & radio), surrounded by a disk of gas & dust. Webb may be able to detect that disk & tell us more about galaxy formation: http://go.nasa.gov/3aa8IGR pic.twitter.com/YKV3SqiEgk

The central region of our galaxy, the Milky Way, contains an exotic collection of objects, including a supermassive black hole weighing about 4 million times the mass of the Sun (called Sagittarius A*), clouds of gas at temperatures of millions of degrees, neutron stars and white dwarf stars tearing material from companion stars and beautiful tendrils of radio emission. The region around Sagittarius A* is shown in this new composite image with Chandra data (green and blue) combined with radio data (red) from the MeerKAT telescope in South Africa

Webb will also look to our neighbor galaxy Centaurus A, a warped disk that previously merged with another galaxy. Its active supermassive black hole shoots out jets & winds. Webb will be able to create 2-D maps to learn more about the black hole's impact: http://go.nasa.gov/2P7SHty pic.twitter.com/htjyfTQjpH

Centaurus A sports a warped central disk of gas and dust, which is evidence of a past collision and merger with another galaxy. It also has an active galactic nucleus that periodically emits jets.

Let’s not forget the supermassive black hole at the center of galaxy NGC 4151! Webb will be able to measure the black hole's mass. Find out how: http://go.nasa.gov/2ErzsFp  Tell us your favorite thing about black holes below!pic.twitter.com/tmdBALpNX1

The spiral galaxy NGC 4151 has a bright, active core powered by a supermassive black hole. Webb will weigh the black hole by measuring the motions of stars at the galaxy’s center.

I saw that galaxy in my 12" scope as part of the Herschel 400 program! The core was so compact and bright that I mistook it for a field star at first
