It looks like some powerful gravity pulling the arms. But the centre star is attracting the arms to make a circle.

What, we going to just ignore that the spiral arms go around the little galaxy to the left? Is that a background galaxy that just happened to line up perfectly, or is it interacting with NGC1097? Either way, really interesting!
