( •.•) | | - | - /\ What if you could extend your neck by 48 inches (1.2 meters)? #NASAWebb's deployable tower allows it to do just that...sort of. The telescope has just completed another important tower extension test! https://go.nasa.gov/2KiEo2B  Thread ⤵️pic.twitter.com/TrlZZueOzq

During testing, the tower stretched up, creating a pronounced gap between the telescope's upper & lower halves. Mind the gap! It allows for #NASAWebb’s cooling systems to bring the mirrors and sensors down to the extremely cold temperatures that they need to perform science.pic.twitter.com/umB2DXNBcC

#NASAWebb's tower looks like a large, thick black pipe and is made out of special material to ensure it is both light and strong. It was also designed for stability, keeping in mind the extreme changes in temperature encountered in space.pic.twitter.com/5ZKksGqXk3

Though the tower will be deployed 2 more times before launch, this test represents the beginning of #NASAWebb’s final full deployment and checkout sequence before the spacecraft is shipped to South America.
