Congrats to the @SOFIAtelescope team! Read more about their discovery here: https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-s-sofia-discovers-water-on-sunlit-surface-of-moon/ …https://twitter.com/SOFIAtelescope/status/1320757723521138688 …

We detected water on the Moon’s sunlit surface for the first time! This suggests water may be distributed across the lunar surface, and not limited to cold, shadowed places. While SOFIA was able to detect the unique chemical finger print of water in the far-IR on the Moon, #NASAWebb has the sensitivity & capability to detect water & other volatiles (i.e. nitrogen, carbon dioxide, ammonia, methane & sulfur dioxide) in moons of the outer Solar System!pic.twitter.com/fYvA5lgkMV

Discerning the chemical make-up of moons, such as Europa and Enceladus, as well as the plumes of gas coming from these ocean worlds, is of particular interest for Solar System scientists and astrobiologists. Image credit: ESApic.twitter.com/uaZ6o6A8Ed

#NASAWebb has a unique capability to routinely measure water and other molecules such as carbon dioxide, that are challenging if not impossible from ground, and even from air-borne observatories. (Note that #NASAWebb cannot look at Earth's Moon - too bright!)pic.twitter.com/EH2sQ0NZEw

I'd love to see a mission dedicated to Uranus and it's moons...but I think the challenge is too big for NASA who seems obsessed by our own moon at this time..!! Been there, done that, moved on 50years ago..!!!
