We know of 4,284 exoplanets in our galactic neighborhood. We can’t wait for @NASAWebb and @NASARoman to add even more! #GoodNeighborDayhttps://twitter.com/NASARoman/status/1310648713421881345 …
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope will #UnfoldTheUniverse and show us things we've never seen before.

NASA Exoplanets added,
Will we be able to collect important data (physical characteristics: atmosphere, mass, gravity, surface temp) and identify the presence of a magnetic field to determine if the astronomical object is an Earth-like world, or will this just be "hey another exoplanet everybody!"
1. We can study exoplanet atmospheres, including their composition, through spectroscopy (see GIF!). For example, we expect to be able to distinguish between rocky planet atmospheres dominated by water vapor, nitrogen (like Earth), or carbon dioxide (like Mars and Venus).pic.twitter.com/4EAlAUirqv
2. We can also build “weather” maps of atmospheric temperature as a function of longitude (like a 3D model of a planet’s atmosphere)! Here's the first-ever exoplanet temperature map from @NASAspitzer.

Could you explain what is 3D on that map? Thank you? Anyway, astonishing.
This map by Spitzer is not 3D, although it is the first exoplanet temperature map! Webb can use a technique called a phase curve to build a complete 3D model of a planet’s atmosphere. If you were looking for more info on the map shown, here's a link: https://go.nasa.gov/34jBktH
The phase curve technique involves observing planets that circle their stars so closely they are tidally locked, and as a result have phases, much like our Moon does. This feature explains further:https://go.nasa.gov/2v3pupB
