@NASAWebb 2 quick questions
1. what is the probability JWST be hit by micrometeorites? Since its mirror is exposed to open space .
2. What’s the range of observable space , since it is always blocking the sun?
Thx.
Replying to @WLBRG
We tested beryllium discs for micrometeoroids & showed micrometeoroids have negligible effects on the beryllium. Cryogenic beryllium mirrors have been flown in space exposed to micrometeoroids without problems. All of our systems are designed to survive micrometeoroid impacts.
